We are now in the final preparation phase of two projects - time to give you the chance to take a look at them. One kilo message and Mosaic Earth shall go hand in hand in the effort to invite all people on Earth to participate in our historic emergence into the Cosmos.
One kilo message
is about to design and build a time capsule of (round) 1 kg, which
could possibly be ready to fly on board of a deep space mission. It is
intended mainly, not excluding other possibilities, for the young
generation, for secondary school pupils aged between 12 and 18, grouped
like 12-14, 15-18 or similarly, depending on local variations. Led by a
local expert, who will be accredited by the team of Faces from Earth, a
group of up to 10-12 pupils will design a durable time capsule, with
proper content. During a two-years project, they will
- design and realize the content of the message - how to represent humanity and Planet Earth? A good way to learn about ourselves and our home planet
- think of the commuincation of the content to the Absolute Foreign, E.T. - this offers the chance to learn about the difficulties and the needed tolerance in communication on Earth as well; how will others perceive our message?
- choose the material of the message which should last for a long
time and be tough enough to resist deep space conditions - opens the
way to learn about materials and their duration
- face the problem of long term projects and great (really astronomical) distances - fosters long term thinking in general, and also paves the way to astronomy and space technology studies
One kilo message will be a
network of projects, conducted separately on many places on Earth. We will start with pilot projects in Germany and Hungary.
Mosaic Earth will build Earth images like the famous Blue Marble as a mosaic composition. The tiles used in the image building will be the faces of the people, who participate in the project, from all over the world.
This is one realisation of the general message of Faces from Earth to represent our home planet, with all our diversity and unity at the same time. Associated with the image collection there will be cultural events around the globe. Sister project will be Faces from Gaia / Mosaic Gaia where the mosaic tiles will include animals, plants and other living creatures, as well as natural sceneries.
